season opener: September 15, 2012

The start of our new season is coming up soon! We are excited to announce that we will be joining forces with several fantastic local musicians to present the music of Toronto-based percussionist & composer Bob Becker.

Event details:
Location – Orpheum Annex (823 Seymour St, Vancouver, BC, Canada)
Date – September 15, 2012
Time – 8 pm

The highlight of the evening will be Bob Becker’s latest work, Preludes, for string quartet, percussion quartet, and piano. We will also be performing his works Prisoners of the Image Factory, Unseen Child, and Never in Word.

The first half of the concert will feature new works written for Ethos by Jordan Nobles and François Houle, a work for us with guest musicians by Stefan Hintersteininger, plus an improvisation by Ethos.

Our collaborators for this concert are: Bob Becker, percussion & composition; Daniel Tones, percussion; Vern Griffiths, percussion; Domagoj Ivanovic, violin; Marcus Takizawa, viola; Melanie Krueger, soprano; Leslie Dala, conductor.

This concert has been made possible due to the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and the British Columbia Arts Council.

Online ticket sales are now available at ethos.brownpapertickets.com. If you would like to be reminded of this event closer to, you are welcome to join our mailing list.

new content + recordings

Our website suddenly has a lot more going on: recordings from past shows and rehearsals, three photo galleries, and design touch-ups on all the pages.
update: The recordings from our session the day after our show at the Vancouver Art Gallery are now up! We played it like a concert: all in one take and with the same set timings as the show. Of course, since the set was half improv + written works with improv elements, the music is rather different than the actual show, but it gives a nice comparison to what the show was like. We hope you enjoy it!
